Co Enzyme Q10 with L Carnitine
Dietary supplement

Description

DESCRIPTION
Coenzyme Q10 is a vitamin-like substance found throughout the body, but especially in the heart, liver, kidney, and pancreas. Coenzyme Q10 is most commonly used for conditions that affect the heart such as heart failure and fluid buildup in the body, angina, and high blood pressure. It is also used for preventing migraine headache, Parkinson disease, and many other conditions. L-carnitine is an amino acid that is produced in the body. L-carnitine helps the body turn fat into energy. The body can convert L-carnitine to other amino acids called acetyl-L-carnitine and propionyl-L-carnitine.

Coenzyme Q10 is also known as coenzyme Q is an oil-soluble, vitamin-like substance is found in all human cells, primarily in the mitochondria, with the highest concentrations in the heart, liver, kidney, and pancreas. Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound synthesized from the amino acids lysine and methionine. Carnitine is normally synthesized in the liver, brain and kidneys in sufficient quantity to meet human requirements. L-carnitine is also an endogenous compound mainly derived from food, such as meat and dairy products.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Coenzyme Q10 is a potent antioxidant, a membrane stabilizer, and an integral cofactor in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, helping to generate adenosine triphosphate, the major cellular energy source. It may also regulate genes associated with cell metabolism. L-carnitine is an essential cofactor of fatty acid metabolism in the heart, liver and skeletal muscle.

PHARMACOKINETIC
Coenzyme Q10 is absorbed slowly from the gastrointestinal tract, possibly because it has a high molecular weight and is not very water soluble. Plasma peak levels are reached at 2-6 hours after oral administration. CoQ10 undergoes biotransformation in the liver and is eliminated primarily via the biliary tract, so it can accumulate in patients with hepatic impairment or biliary obstruction. L-carnitine is absorbed slowly and incompletely from the small intestine. Bioavailability has been reported to be only about 10% to 15% with peak plasma concentration occurring about 3 to 4 hours after oral dose. L-carnitine is mainly excreted by the kidneys, undergoing extensive tubular reabsorption.

SUPPLEMENTATION BENEFITS
Please consult your physician or other health care provider if you plan to take Q-Mac. Some studies suggest that coenzyme Q10 supplements, either by themselves or with other drug therapies, may prove helpful in the following conditions:

Statin Induced Myalgia*
There is some evidence that Coenzyme Q10 may reduce side effects from conventional treatment with cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins, which reduce natural levels of CoQ10 in the body. Taking CoQ10 supplements can bring levels back to normal. Plus, studies show that CoQ10 may decrease the muscle pain associated with statin treatment.

High Blood Pressure*
Several clinical studies involving small numbers of people suggest that Couto may lower blood pressure. However, it may take 4 -12 weeks to see any change. In one analysis, after reviewing 12 clinical studies, researchers concluded that CoQ10 has the potential to lower systolic blood pressure by up to 17 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure by 10 mm Hg, without significant side effects.

Diabetes*
CoQ10 supplements may improve heart health and blood sugar and help manage high blood pressure in people with diabetes. Studies have found that 100 mg of CoQ10 twice daily improved A1c levels, a measure of long-term blood sugar control. Several clinical studies suggest that CoQ10 may help prevent heart damage caused by certain chemotherapy drugs, adriamycin, or other anthracycline medications.

Skin Aging
Skin Aging CoQ10 is a substance similar to a vitamin. It is found in every cell of the body. Your body makes CoQ10, and your cells use it to produce energy your body needs for cell growth and maintenance. It also functions as an antioxidant, which protects the body from damage caused by harmful molecules. CoQ10 slow the breakdown of collagen, a protein fiber that helps skin to maintain its firmness. Collagen tends to weaken with age. CoQ10 may help protect skin from extrinsic or environmental aging such as sun damage, as well as intrinsic aging due to genetic factors.

Other*
Preliminary clinical studies also suggest that CoQ10 may: Improve immune function in people with HIV infection; Increase sperm motility, improving male fertility: Improve exercise ability in people with angina; and others.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Usual dose is 1 capsule morning and 1 capsule evening or as recommended by the physician. For statin induced myopathy, Q-Mac 2-4 capsules daily has been used. A typical daily dose of Q-Mac for treating hypertension is 2-4 capsules, usually given orally in two divided doses. Q-Mac is given in divided doses to enhance its absorption and to minimize gastrointestinal effects.

SIDE EFFECTS, CONTRAINDICATIONS, WARNINGS

The most possible side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, loss of appetite, insomnia, elevated levels of liver enzymes, headache, seizures, dizziness, mood changes, impaired thinking, judgment and coordination, fish odor syndrome and cutaneous skin reaction.
